LGBTQ Relations

Legal issues surrounding same-sex couples are quickly evolving. On one hand, in 2015 the United States Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that the fundamental right to marry included those individuals in same-sex relationships. On the other hand, in 2016, the United States elected a president that does not necessarily inspire confidence to many in the LGBTQ community.

Bradford & Gordon practices extensively in this area of the law. We can concisely explain the current state of the law; and advise you of your rights and responsibilities with respect to your financial affairs and family.

In general, dissolution of same-sex marriages/civil unions present the same issues that a divorce does. Property must be identified and divided, support must be set, children’s issues must be practically resolved, and the relationship must be legally dissolved by the court.

Bradford & Gordon can help you through the same-sex/civil union dissolution process. We will collaborate with you to determine your reasonable goals and expectations. Then we will work strategically and efficiently to achieve those goals.
